Maria is a Vice President and Actuary in Segal’s Washington, DC office. She has more than 15 years of experience in all facets of retirement consulting, including plan design, funding, risk analysis and mitigation, cost management strategies, withdrawal liability, and deterministic and stochastic funding studies. She has extensive expertise in the full life cycle of rehabilitation plans and funding improvement plans, from design and implementation through annual assessments of progress, as well as in managing green zone emergence issues.
Maria is the Enrolled Actuary for several multiemployer and single employer plans and also oversees the actuarial calculations for severance plans and nonqualified plans. She also has experience with post-retirement health and welfare benefit plans.
Maria has contributed to Segal’s New Employee Actuarial Training (NEAT) program and leads the East Region Quality Control Committee, which helps ensure quality controls are up to date and align with current actuarial standards in a hybrid work environment.
Maria graduated from Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) with a BS in Statistics and Actuarial Science. She is a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. She is currently a member of the Pension Committee of the American Academy of Actuaries.
