Jo Ann is a Senior Vice President and Senior Consultant in the National Health Compliance Practice, affiliated with Segal’s Washington, DC office. She has more than 30 years of experience as an ERISA attorney and corporate counsel. She is a subject matter expert in health and welfare plans, qualified and tax-exempt retirement plans, executive compensation, and plan investments and fiduciary matters.
Prior to Segal, Jo Ann was the Legislative and Regulatory Advisor at Cheiron, where she was responsible for monitoring legal and compliance developments in employee benefit plans, writing alerts on regulations and guidance, drafting participant communications and providing compliance advice to health and pension actuaries and clients. She focused on mental health parity analysis, cafeteria plan nondiscrimination testing and ACA compliance.
Earlier in her career, Jo Ann worked for several law firms: Nixon Peabody LLP, Phelps Dunbar LLP, Wolf, Block Schorr & Solis-Cohen LLP and Dechert Price & Rhoads, as well as Willis Towers Watson and AstraZeneca. Her first legal job was as a Law Clerk to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Jo Ann received a JD and LLM in Taxation from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law (Philadelphia, PA), where she was on the Law Review, participated in Moot Court and graduated cum laude. She graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Journalism from Temple University. She is a member of the bars in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York. Pennsylvania and Louisiana.
